Yankee Candle's: Peeps Marshmallow Chicks- Candle Review

Today I am reviewing Yankee Candle's Peeps Marshmallow Chicks 22oz, single wick candle. The wax is a lovely pale yellow and pools out to a buttery yellow. There are some Peeps chicks on the label and this candle is part of the Collectors Edition.

The scent description on this candle reads: The fluffy, sweet marshmallow scent of these classic treats welcomes spring with colorful fun.

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff, the single most simplified description for this candle would be -RICE CRISPY TREATS! Which, GOD, I love so much. I think most of the world loves them too, I have not met anyone who doesn't like the taste or smell of rice crispy treats. Peeps on the other hand,  people either love them or hate them. If you are one of the latter, don't worry, this candle scent appeals to most anyone and is a sweet, confectioners, gooey marshmallow delight. Just opening the lid and smelling this candle would quell even the most serious sugar craving!

Hot Throw: Woo! Praise the Lord, this candle was a thrower! It was a nice strong thower- especially in an actual room. When I placed this candle in my open-concept house I still noticed the scent, but much less concentrated. But put this baby in a room and BAM delightful. It smells the same on hot as it does on cold sniff and this candle was my FAVORITE version of vanilla/marshmallow/sugar that I've ever burned from Yankee. I have heard of mixed-reviews on this particular candle scent and was reluctant to purchase it, but for the SAS it was only $7, so I hit the jackpot. I am kicking myself for not picking up more. The first 2 burns provided a very strong scent throw, and towards the middle and the end, the throw was a few notches dialed back, but still very prominent.

Wax Performance: The candle burned spectacularly with no issues. The last burn, the wick drifted off center, but I continued to burn the candle none the less until it self extinguished.

Overall: This candle was delicious and I am upset that I didn't stock up for the ONLY $7 it cost me. I know I was not expecting such a spectacular performance from this candle due to the reviews I heard on it. But, I am lucky that I got an A1 performing candle! I would definitely recommend this candle to any sweet, sticky, ooey-gooey sugar lover!

Yankee Candle's: Baby Powder-Candle Review

Today I am reviewing a 22 oz, 1-wick candle from Yankee Candle called Baby Powder. It is presented with crisp white wax and a label depicting talcum powder and a mirror and a brush.

Scent Description: a soothing, fresh scent that gently cleanses the spirit and gives it a soft touch of innocence. WHAT A STORY! They should just state that it smells like baby powder and quit with the nonsense fluff!

Cold Sniff: This scent is plainly and simply baby powder. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want authentic baby powder scent, perfect for a bathroom or bedroom or even a baby shower gift--this is YOUR scent. This goes on my list of one of the most authentically scented candles I've ever smelled. And I like authentic. I love nostalgia and if candles smelled 100% like what they SAY they smell like it would be all over for me. I'd go broke buying candles. If I was blindfolded and someone put this candle under my nose, I would 100% guess I was smelling actual baby powder. And I'd be willing to BET MONEY that others would make the same assumption too.

Hot Throw: This is one of the stronger Yankee's I have burned in a while and I am pleased about that. After a round of several weaker scents--followed by a strong Gingerbread and then this Baby Powder, I am feeling good about Yankee again. That being said--I have permanently quarantined all my Yankee's to be burned in a medium sized room, no more open foyer burning for them because then I don't notice them, and I want to notice them. I PAY to notice my candles. In my media room this candle was noticeable and medium to deep throwing. On hot throw this candle was as authentic smelling as it was on cold. There was no scent change or deviation in the transition of hard wax to melted wax.

Wax Performance: I burned this candle with an Illuma Lid, like I do all my Yankee Jars. I just don't have time to wait for my Yankees to pool out under normal circumstances. They are excruciatingly slow burning candles which are a catch 22 for me. Sometimes it's great and other times I'd wish they'd just hurry up so I can move to a new scent! This candle had no problems with tunneling, wick or wax discoloration. There was a point at the midway point that I got some residue of wax on the walls of the glass jar, but that is normal to me with Yankee. Nothing too bad.

Overall: I really was pleased with the hot scent throw of this candle and the true to nature scent of this candle. It was authentic baby powder and would make a unique baby shower gift! It is a very congenial scent that most people would be okay with burning. I would recommend this candle and would repurchase it!

Bath & Bodyworks: Provence Garden-Candle Review

Today I am reviewing Bath & Bodyworks 14.5oz, 3-wick candle called, Provence Garden. It is presented in a clear glass container with a picture depicting a wooden fence and some climbing foliage with a purple flower. I really like the label, and the font as well. The wax is a light green, and pools out to a deep emerald.

Scent Description: from garden to table, much of French cuisine includes herbs like the ones in this blend of fresh garden greens, pear blossoms and a hint of ivy.

Cold Sniff: I bought this candle blindly, I had never smelled it in the stores, but knew I wanted it based on the name and the label. I love garden or green type smells. And I love Provence France. This scent is a green fruity scent, with the pear blossoms blending lovingly with an herbal note. Ivy--not sure that it even has a scent in reality, wasn't noticed by me in cold sniff. While I was OK with the cold-sniff, I wasn't like dying of sheer delight. It was not the most impressive garden scent I have ever smelled, nor was it the worst.

Hot Throw: I had this candle burning on the lower level of my open floor-plan 2 level home right at the entrance table of my foyer. I have very high cathedral ceilings. This scent was a steady medium, and noticeable. I smelled it the strongest at the top of my stairs, a floor directly above where I was burning it. Made perfect sense to me. I noticed it slightly more muted in the surrounding areas on the same floor that I was burning it on. I have recently moved to a large home with, like I said, tall cathedral ceilings and a wide open floor plan. I came into it knowing that most of my stronger candles would have a harder time filling up the space than they did in my smaller split-level home. This house would be the ultimate test for a candle's scent-throw. And those that could not stand up to the test would be sent into our media room, a smaller room where we watch TV for enjoyment as we unwind with our favorite shows. I like the idea of having multiple candles burning in their own areas not able to blend their scents together due to having to share an open space. I like to enjoy each candle's unique aroma.

Wax Performance: The wax performed well, with no tunneling. I got those crazy popping, exploding wicks again, so I made sure to light the candle over the sink so the ash wouldn't burn or ruin my entrance table. That is 2 exploding wick candles for me. Other than that, I had no problems with burn, wax or discoloration.

Overall: This scent was nothing to write home about but it was a pleasant smell that gave my home a resort-type feel with it's fruity-herbal blended scent.  I had company over while I burned this candle and got a lot of compliments on this scent, which is always nice because most of my guest don't notice scents (or at least give me any feedback about them!)

Bath & Bodyworks: Bergamot Waters- Candle Review

Today I am reviewing a 14.5 oz, 3-wick candle from Bath & Bodyworks/White Barn called Bergamot Waters. It is presented in a smoky blue glass container and the wax is a creamy white.

The scent description for Bergamot Waters is: a lush blend of blue bergamot waters, creamy sandalwood and a hint of sugared citrus.

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff I got a complex, sweet masculine-type scent. It has that slight hint of whatever it is that BBW keeps putting into all their masculine-type candles, if you know what I mean then you can most likely recall this scent by memory. None the less, I really liked it on cold sniff. I didn't smell any "sugared citrus" but there is an undoubtedly sweet dry-down with this scent. Bergamot is the scent on the foreground here with this candle.

Hot Throw: this candle was a medium to deep thrower. I had this candle placed in the lower part of my split-level home and it gently wafted all over. I think because the bergamot is a more noticeable, spicy scent, I tended to be more aware of this candle's presence then per say a more natural type smell like a green, of fresh type scent. If you like sweet masculine scents that BBW does, then you will like this scent. I found myself getting overwhelmed with this scent, even nauseated. It's not that it didn't smell good, its just that whatever scent combo it gave off was just not agreeing with me. It was too sickeningly sweet for me, and I like sweet scents. Not sure what it was. I got about half-way done with the candle and gave it to my mother. She said she liked it. This is the FIRST time I have stopped a candle from burning and then given it away. Yikes.

Wax Performance: The candle burned well with no tunneling, but the wicks sparked and set burning ashes afloat upon lighting them. This has been happening to me with BBW candles lately, can anyone relate? Also, my milky-white wax got discolored and turned an ashen-gray color. This is the first time I have noticed such a gross discoloration with BBW/White Barn candles. Perhaps it is because of the sparking wicks? Or maybe that is why they gave us colored glass, so that we would not be as aware of the wax discoloration. Only God knows.

Overall: This candle appealed to me on cold-sniff but after burning, just became to cloying for me to handle. The wax performed well but the wicks were popping messes of ash and the wax discoloration was pretty gross. It wouldn't deter me from continuing to burn the candle if I liked the scent though, so I wasn't too up in arms about all that, but the scent just no. NO. I would not repurchase this scent.

719 Walnut Avenue's: Tiki Colada Candle Review

Today's review is on the 14oz, 3 wick candle, Tiki Colada, from the company 719 Walnut Avenue. The wax is a milky white which pools out to a golden yellow. This candle was $5 from Walmart.

The scent description reads: Toes in the sand, and a tiki colada in your hand. The ultimate tropical mix with pineapple, orange and coconut.

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff its a very sweet, coco-nutty pina colada scent. I was ALL OVER this scent because pina coladas are my favorite! I wanted to smell this candle all day, heck, I even wanted to eat this candle. It smelled so delicious, so potent I was excited to light it up.

Hot Throw: What a bummer, man! This candle had virtually no throw. That's right kids, the delectable, strong impression I got on cold-sniff was a ghost of the past once I light this puppy up. *Insert sad-face here* I had this candle burning downstairs in my split-level and had no clue it was even burning. Even hours after the wax pool deepened there was no scent throw. This was like the 719 Walnut Ave candle Honeysuckle Jasmine (not reviewed on here because of the lackluster performance)-a truly lovely cold-sniff experience with no hot-throw euphoria.  While I did notice a waft of fragrance here and there once I moved it to a smaller bedroom, it was nothing special. I was just hoping it would burn out quickly so that I could move on to another candle. If you are looking for an exact number here, I'd say it was a 2 or 3/10.

Wax Performance: The wax seemed a little troubled with this candle, sticking to the sides of the glass jar, not wanting to burn the cleanest. If left it burning for a long enough time it would correct itself out, but there was still something off about this wax burn with this candle. It seemed like it never got hot enough to really burn the wax well, which tells me that it was something about the wax blend itself--as the wicks never got puny or discolored.  I just let the candle do its thing, undisturbed in the upstairs bedroom. Like an invalid in the late 1800's early 1900's who was locked in an attic never to see the light of day (I can't believe people could be so cruel in those days) I just lit and forgot about this candle.

Overall: This candle was a bore in so many ways. It never had a "worthy" scent throw, the wax was troubled and if you really want to pick bones here-the label wasn't that awesome and the wax color was blah. I would NOT repurchase this candle. Which is too bad because I love this coconut blend smell. If you are looking for a strong smelling coconut-hit up BBW. At least you are guaranteed a scent throw from them. Coconuts, man!

Yankee Candle's Cherries on Snow: Candle Review

Today's review is on Yankee Candle's Cherries on Snow, a 22oz, 1 wick, large jar candle. It's wax is a bright, cheerful red that pools out to crimson and has a label with some red cherries resting on some fluffy white snow. This candle is part of the fruit collection.

The scent description on this candle reads: an enchanted, sparkling blend of bright, juicy cherries with sweet almonds and an icy freshness.

Cold Sniff: This candle had a rich, dark cherry smell on cold-sniff. I sensed a slight sweet almond note almost giving the candle a Dr. Pepper smell. I didn't notice any other scents on cold sniff.

Hot Throw: On hot throw this candle evolved into more of a Luden's Cough Drop smell, losing the almond note and becoming just a potent authentic cherry. It was a medium-light thrower, only noticeable when I was around the kitchen island (where I was burning this candle). While it didn't carry the scent throughout the house, it was indeed noticeable--which sometimes you don't get from Yankee's. I'll take semi-noticeable any day over unscented. This candle had almost a medicinal property--just like a cough drop when burning, and I'm not a fan--especially since scents have a memory attached to them, I was put back to a time of ill-health and who wants to remember that?! Although, I'm sure cherry enthusiasts would go ga-ga for this scent.

Wax Performance: The wax performed well in this Yankee, there was a lot of scent oil in this candle which I just love! Whenever I'd blow out the flame and the wax would cool, I'd come to see tiny pin points of bright red fragrance oil seeping to the top. This oil DID NOT inhibit the quality of the burn in this candle, like it had before in my Yankee Candle Exotic Bloom.

Overall: This candle was a pretty good thrower for Yankee Candle, and cherry lovers will rejoice in this scent which was a medium-light thrower. While I was not a fan of the actual scent, I did love the beautiful bright cherry wax and the light that danced off of it. Is it a repurchase? Not particularly, but I may try a different cherry scent from Yankee in its place.

719 Walnut Avenue's Country Market: Candle Review

Today I am reviewing 719 Walnut Avenue's Country Market which is a 14oz, 3-wick candle that retails for around $5 at Walmart. This candle had a lot of hype about it, being a close dupe to Bath & Bodyworks' Watermelon Lemonade-which I have never burned so I can't be so sure, but as many of you are, I too am always excited about anything claimed to be a dupe! The wax on this candle is an off-white, that pools out to a golden yellow.

The scent description on this candle reads: will post later

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff I got a predominantly candied watermelon smell mixed with some other candied fruit smells maybe strawberry? The result is a highly sugary, synthetic watermelon-type scent. Now, I love all things watermelon-but I am not a fan of watermelon scents because they are always so highly synthetic, so syrupy sweet and nauseating. This is true with this candle, you are not getting an authentic watermelon here, but do we ever get authentic watermelon?! I think not. On cold it seems very highly scented.

Hot Throw: On hot throw this candle is a strong thrower. I'd give it a 9 out of 10, in fact it was so strong that I had to blow it out because it was becoming too overpowering. It filled my whole split level house with a watermelon punch-type smell and overtook all the other lighter smelling candles that I had going at the same time. I'd say that it performed just as well as a Bath & Bodyworks candle in terms of hot scent throw, and for only $5, wow! Excellent value, and definitely worth everyone trying.

Wax Performance: this candle burned well with no issues of small wicks, sooting or tunneling. The wax did not discolor and the strong scent throw did not change as the burn progressed. I was very impressed with this candle's performance.

Overall: with this candle indistinguishable in both packaging, labels and hot scent throw of a Bath & Bodyworks candle, I would say that I was very impressed with this candle albeit me not being in love with the actual scent. It is a great summery scent that with knock the socks off of anyone who burns it (granted you don't get the occasional dud candle). IF you like watermelon scents than this is a no-brainer...GO GET YOU ONE!!

Yankee Candle's: Do Re Mi Candle Review

Today I am reviewing Yankee Candle's 22oz. 1 wick large jar candle in the scent Do Re Mi. It is part of the fresh collection and is a dark charcoal colored wax pooling out to a inky black wax. The label would appeal to a music enthusiast and would make a great gift for someone who is musically inclined. This candle is also part of Yankee's My Favorite Things collection of which I have reviewed one other candle, Whiskers on Kittens.

The scent description on this candle reads: jasmine, wild berries and cedar wood. To me, this couldn't be further from the truth. Now, my nose isn't that highly sophisticated to pick out too many individual scent notes, but on the whole, I neither smell jasmine, wild berries or cedar wood. It smells like a deep vanilla and that is all. I would think most others would agree with me on this one, but if you have burned this candle and smelled otherwise, I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts (write them in the comments).

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff this candle gave me a monochromatic vanilla. Just one scent. Nothing else, which is odd, but I like sweet smelling vanilla-type candles, so I was neither dying of joy or dread. It was just very basic. It was lighter on cold sniff, so I assumed I would have another unscented Yankee Candle on my hands.

Hot Throw: On hot throw this candle was a light-medium scent throw. I had this candle burning in my office at work and noticed it wafting in every once in a while. I only had one client mention anything about the candle and they said it smelled like sweet desserts. So that's good, right? It smelled on hot as it did on cold, no new notes were brought to the surface after being heated up by the flame.

Wax Performance: This Yankee burned cleanly and evenly with no tunneling issues and no sooting. It always helps to use a Illuma Lid, which I always do when burning a Yankee. I would highly recommend investing in one of those. Overall, typical Yankee Candle burn-lasting many, many days with a lighter scent throw.

Overall: I enjoyed this candle, I love vanilla scents and it was different to burn a black-waxed candle. While I had fun with this candle while it lasted, I would not repurchase because, well, it was just pretty basic. Bland even. Nothing exciting-no fun wax color or cool label, no complex scent. But that being said, this would make a nice gift for any music lover or teacher and most people would enjoy a vanilla scent so this is an easy gifter.

719 Walnut Avenue's: Blushing Blossom Candle Review

Today I am reviewing 719 Walnut Avenue's Blushing Blossom, a 14oz, 3-wick candle. I purchased this candle from Walmart for only $1! That's right people, one freakin' dollar. A dollar makes me holler honey boo-boo.....ok you get the picture. I'm sure it must be an older candle that was clearanced out that was misplaced and luckily found it's way to my shopping cart. I was so happy with this candle, it's scent was very original and quite lovely.

The scent description on this candle reads: A light bouquet of lily of the valley and violets enhanced with bright citrus and a whisper of green grass.

Cold Sniff: On cold it was a very light floral fragrance. I was worried that it wouldn't throw very well on hot. I could smell a slight lily of the valley note as well as a tad of violet. Not noted, there was a very light smidge of an anise scent. I was impressed by the complexity and how I've never smelled this combo before.

Hot Throw: On hot throw it outperformed the cold sniff for sure. I had this candle burning in our master bedroom and it was a beautiful light floral that wasn't overpowering like a lot of florals tend to be. I was awaiting the headache to start--florals tend to do this to me--but alas, there was none. There are some light blushing florals with that slight anise note mixed with the complex green note that violet adds. I would say this candle is a medium thrower, which is the best throw for florals so you don't risk it being too strong and heady.

Wax Performance: the wax performed consistently and didn't tunnel, soot or discolor. No puny wicks either. Perfect 10.

Overall: This was the best candle I have ever gotten for $1. If I EVER see this candle again at Walmart, you can best believe I would pick it up. I love a good floral and what makes it even better is that is hasn't been done before. That is worth so much to me because now a days everything is a repackage. It was a joy to burn.

719 Walnut Avenue's Ocean Mist: Candle Review

Today I am going to review one of my favorites from this company: Ocean Mist from 719 Walnut Avenue. This candle is a 14 oz, 3-wick candle with a bright blue sky colored wax that pools out to a translucent cornflower blue color. On the label is an ocean wave curling in the current. Surfs up, bro! I was so pleasantly surprised to fall in love with this candle, but I will get in to that in a few.

The scent description on this candle reads:

Cold Sniff: On cold this was a light, fresh scent. I was certain that it would be a light thrower-better suited for a small room like a bathroom. Bathrooms like fresh smelling candles right? Its very fitting. I noted an ambiguous aquatic note-slightly salt water-ish, with a rounding out of a masculine note. I am over the masculine scents, like for-real for-real. BUT, once again I was at Walmart and just had to buy every candle that I could find from 719. I hadn't seen this scent before so I thought, why not. I really didn't give this scent any other thoughts on cold sniff, and that kind of sucks for me. That means I'm not impressed.

Hot Throw: Holy shizz guys, scratch the record, REWIND! I take back what I said about this candle being un-impressive. I was pleasantly surprised that this candle not only filled my master suite, but also gently wafted out into the upstairs hallway. It was a medium throw, about a 6, which is all I want for my upstairs. The part that I obsess over is the actual scent. It was a smell I have never smelled before, and in a world of constant re-packaging, scents seem to be more recycled than ever before. This was a breath of fresh-air LITERALLY! The most simple way I can describe this scent is like a clean aquatic-type smell~so here goes...a blend of Windex with a dash of a sexy man! Ha! I mean this in the best possible way! I swear it's so good! It's got a clean smell similar to a Windex (minus the nasty ammonia smell) and a masculine note (minus bergamot). This is a great candle to light after you clean the home for a gentle, good clean smell that ISN'T laundry soap, or cotton-y. It's gentle, it's soft, it covers you like a warm blanket-or better yet, a clean, white sheet just taken off the line from drying in the fresh air. It is a relaxing scent that I actually left burning to put me to sleep. It is comforting and relaxing and I just can't say enough great things about it. If you like more aquatic-fresh smells than this candle is a great one to try!

Wax Performance: This candle like Sunny Sangria performed better than candles from this company in the past. The wax pooled out deeply and with the most beautiful blue liquid. The wicks stayed in place, didn't need trimming and didn't cause soot. The wax color stayed the original summer blue-sky blue and didn't discolor-even better than most BBW candles do. Towards the end of the candle, I'd say the last 2 burns, I needed to cotton ball this candle due to some puny wicks. Scent throw was wonderful all the way up until it burned itself out.

Overall: This candle hit me in a nostalgic spot, I think, which is why I felt so strangely in love with this scent. It was different than any others I have smelled, it had the ability to calm me (like I'm a raving lunatic or something) and the color of the wax and wax pool are some of my favorite shades of blue. This candle is the perfect example of why it's not good to judge a book by it's cover--so to speak. It's hot throw out shined its cold-sniff and proved to be worthy of me picking up duplicates of this candle. Call it luck, call it love, or call it my own personal blend of happy, I am satisfied with the gentle clean breeze of Ocean Mist. And I think you'd be too!

Yankee Candle's Exotic Bloom: Candle Review

Today I am reviewing Yankee Candle's 22oz. large jar candle in the scent Exotic Bloom. It has one of the loveliest bright red colored waxes I've seen and it pools out to a molten cherry color. On the label there is an array of tropical foliage to get the burner in the mood for the vibe of this candle!

The scent description on this candle reads: Deep in the tropical night, the seductive perfume of island flora creates an air of mystery and romance. This has to be one of the most nondescript "stories" that I have read in a while from Yankee--who are very much fans of giving their customers a "mindset" of the candle rather than the scent notes. I guess they want to leave the interpretation up to their consumers. It's like one of those inkblot tests; "So, what do YOU see in this picture...?"

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff, this candle is right up my alley. I love fresh, powdery smells and this candle delivers just that. This candle is part of Yankee's Fresh collection, and I would have to agree. It is indeed fresh. Since there are no scent notes to guide me, I will say that it smells similar to Yankee Candle's Blue Hydrangea. It's got that powdery very light floral in the sense of hydrangeas, lilacs, tulips, magnolias~ that type of floral. It's very true for spring and even summer. This candle has a certain dewy aspect to it and it is a very congenial smell. I think most people would like it-it isn't offensive or cloying. I figured by its lighter fragrance that it would be a light thrower.

Hot Throw: Blown away about this scent performance! After burning several what seemed to be unscented Yankee's, the throw on this puppy was enough to fill one whole level of my 3 level home. I noticed the smell quickly too; even before it pooled all the way out. Just how it smelled on cold: fresh, dewy and powdery, it smelled on hot throw. It's a very authentic scent, not manufactured and fake. Very pleasant. I'm thankful for this candle for restoring a little faith in me for Yankee Candle. The last 2 burns of this candle had a more light scent throw, and got moved to a bathroom so that it could perform strongly in a smaller room.

Wax Performance: When I first popped the lid on this candle, it seemed moist. The wax was glossy, and there was what I call a "condensation" ring around the bottom half of the candle. I could tell that it was loaded with fragrance oil! I was like a kid in a candy shop; mouth watering! I just KNEW that it was going to be a strong thrower. After the first few burns, probably due to the saturation of oil in the wax, my candle started to not want to pool out, even after hours and hours. So, I helped the little guy out with wrapping it in foil to reflect the heat back into the candle and force the wax to pool out correctly. It helped, and every subsequent burn --I had to foil it--until the last 2 burns which I suppose I had burned off the excess oil at which time it returned to pooling out normally without foil intervention. The closer down to the bottom I got, the wax became more oily. The candle was actually glossy after I blew it out and let the wax cool. See below.

The final few times I lit the candle, I was greeted by fragrance oil that had seeped to the top!

I got kinda excited about all the fragrance oil, and while this candle was a very fragrant little thrower, the burn was troublesome due to all the oil, and I had to foil the candle all the way until it's final burn. It's a shame because I like the Yankee jar candles to display their beautiful flickering flames and pretty labels, but this candle was just looking like the Tin Man all bundled up! Exotic Bloom was just all scent and no display in this case, and for that I was a bit sad.

Overall: While this candle was a great scent thrower that made me happy once again with Yankee Candle, the performance of the wax and the saturation of oils put it in a tricky spot; one which I was happy when it was finally over for Exotic Bloom. The scent is great, but very similar to others done before by Yankee, such as Blue Hydrangea. If you like soft, dewy florals then this candle is worth a sniff! I'm sure that the odd burn I had with this candle is an isolated incident, and I will continue to burn Yankee's--but I won't feel the need to stock up on multiples of this particular scent.

719 Walnut Avenue's, Sunny Sangria: Candle Review

Today I am reviewing a 14oz, 3-wick candle from 719 Walnut Avenue (can you tell that I'm STOKED about this BBW knock-off company?!) called Sunny Sangria. This candle has a cerise colored wax that pools out to a lovely sangria color (how fitting, huh?). The label has a picture of a bunch of sliced oranges and berries surrounding a glass of what we can assume is sangria. Now, I can say that I wasn't a huge fan of the name of this candle or the label for that matter because I don't really care for the smell of sangria~bad memories of over-doing it with the sangria--if you know what I mean. But, I was looking to buy some candles from this line, I was at Walmart, IT was at Walmart, so I picked it up to give it a try. I mean, it was less than $5, so what have you really got to lose?

The scent description on this candle reads: A fresh blend of summer fruits, berries, melon, orange and kiwi touched with a hint of sugar.

Cold Sniff: On cold, this candle smells plain and simple like fruit punch. I know a lot of reviewers like to get technical and try and list all the individual notes that they can pick out, but for the sake of getting you guys to know how this candle smells by using your imagination, because hey, smell-o-vision hasn't been invented yet. I like to describe the candle using the most close and to-the-point measures I can. So yes, it smells like Hawaiian Punch if you can imagine that. I don't smell any wine notes or any individual fruit notes, its just a well blended, generic fruit punch smell. Nothing new, nothing old.

Hot Throw: On hot throw, this candle was a great thrower, it filled the bottom 2 floors of my house with a tropical punch smell. On hot, the candle deviated a bit from the sugary Hawaiian Punch smell of cold sniff to a more exotic vibe, bringing forth mostly a sweet orange smell with a note that reminded me of a passion fruit. Maybe it even WAS passion fruit, who knows. It was a great throw even up until the final burn. Definitely stronger on hot than I thought it would be. I would say it threw at about a 7 or 8, and became the dominating candle scent of the house when I was burning a lighter one upstairs, and a Yankee downstairs (again, a lighter smelling one, so as to not contaminate the scent throw of Sunny Sangria for the purposes of this review.).

Wax Performance: The wax pooled out well, as have all the candles I have tested from this company. There was no tunneling, just a clean and even burn with no sooting. The wicks stayed nice and centered, better than the other candles I have tested from this company that have tended to drift outward, needing to be set back in place. Maybe this is because this candle is from their new line and they have corrected their mistakes from the past-or I just picked a good candle. Either way, great performance and strong throw for $5.

Overall: I was surprised at the scent throw of this candle, it was very strong and prominent. Usually fruity smells seem kind of lost in my open-floor plan house, but this candle made it's presence known! The wax was a pretty color and the pool was deep and "healthy." I would not repurchase this candle simply because I thought it was a pretty generic scent--one every company puts out in one form or another. It's a summery scent of fruit punch! I'm not a huge fruity candle lover, so I would pick a different scent over this one. But if you like fruity scents then this candle is a very worthy contender for you to consider. And did I mention that it was less that $5?! Hellur, go pick this one up you summer fruit candle lover, you!

719 Walnut Avenue's "Rustic Lakehouse" Candle Review

Today I am reviewing "Rustic Lakehouse" from 719 Walnut Avenue, a 14 oz. 3 wick candle. It's wax is a caramel color that pools out to a rich walnut color. The picture on the label is of a little cabin on a lake in the forest. It's a very pretty label. (the above picture is not mine, but can be found at https://www.instagram.com/p/x9hPtsx0vi/)

The scent description for Rustic Lakehouse is:

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff it is hardly any different from 719 Walnut Avenue's Mahogany Driftwood. So I was pleasantly surprised that this candle out-performed and out-threw its counterpart. It smelled like a slightly masculine scent with other in-distinguishable scent notes, much like Mahogany Driftwood. I'm going in a circle here, aren't I?! HELP MEEEEE!

Hot Throw: This candle was placed in my bedroom and on hot throw, it filled up the whole room with a medium-deep throw, still a very noticeable scent. This is where the individual scent notes started to show themselves. I picked up on the base note being an aquaticone, fresh and watery--slightly cotton-y. There was a light masculine note to it, but not too manly. This is a good candle for either genders, my husband like this one too while it was burning. It made our room smell very nice. I had it burning while I was trying to sleep so it helped me calm down and doze off (I blew it out once it established an even wax-pool-don't worry, I didn't let it burn all night while I slept). I was curious to see how this candle would perform on the lower levels of my house-I have a very open floor plan and 3 floors on the lower levels. It was a more light-medium throw downstairs, but still was noticeable and made my house smell fresh and clean after a few hours of consistent burn.

Wax Performance: The wax performed well albeit it suffered from puny wick syndrome halfway through the burn. I simply dipped 2 cotton balls in the melted wax to soak up some of the excess and viola! The wicks were no longer hanging on for their lives, and the candle continued to burn flawlessly, with no sooting and consistent scent throw throughout.

Overall: I was SO happy that this candle performed as well as it did for only costing $5 and so closely resembling Bath and Body Works candles. I figured Mahogany Driftwood was a bad apple and that Rustic Lakehouse was more indicative of what 719 Walnut Avenue candles are about. While I enjoyed this scent, I think I am more inclined to try other scents that this company has to offer, but who know..I may find myself yearning to return back to the Rustic Lakehouse for another calming getaway :-)

719 Walnut Avenue: "Mahogany Driftwood" Candle Review

This candle review is on 719 Walnut Avenue's: "Mahogany Driftwood", a 14oz, 3-wick candle. This brand is sold at Walmart for roughly $4.93. They are said to be "dupes" for Bath & Body Works. They look similarly with how they are packaged, so I agree there. I was curious about this brand due to how similar they look to BBW, but for so much less money. I just HAD to try them for myself! My Walmart didn't have a very big selection of these candles, but I bought one of each sent they had. I am going to have to try other Wal Marts to see their offerings. This is the first scent I burned, so I will just let the review speak for itself...keep reading...

The scent description written on the candle is: "The cologne of mahogany and cedar wood are rounded with light floral notes."

Cold Sniff: a masculine fragrance, can't put my finger on any individual scent--since I don't think I'm smelling mahogany or cedar wood...it's not a bergamot masculine, its something else...I apologize for my lack of words here. It's like a men's Axe-type shower gel..a manufactured men's scent with a mishmash of masculine notes blended into one.

Hot Throw: On the first burn, I got no scent whatsoever but a burnt, waxy smell. Like a crayon. I have always heard of people experiencing this with some candles, but never thought it would be me. Alas, I got my chance with this puppy. On the second burn, there was less, and I say less because it was still present, of a waxy smell, and a very faint Mahogany Driftwood poked through ~that is what I will call it because I can't pick out the individual scent notes~. Yet still, no throw. I had to waft the candle to my nose to smell anything at all.

Wax Performance: The wax which was similar to Bath & Body works both visually and by touch, performed much like its relative, burning cleanly, evenly and with no sooting. The wax burns slower, however, than Bath & Body works, which I like because lets face it-- I think Bath & Body Works candles burn to quickly. The wicks were spaced more closely together as well and were very tall. I didn't cut them at all, and once I lit the wicks they shrank down to a normal size and remained that way until the candle burned itself out.

Overall: I was disappointed by this candles hot throw, I was hoping, really hoping, that it would be just as strong as Bath & Body Works candles. I have read a lot of other reviews on this particular candle and it seems that most others thought that it was very highly scented, so maybe it is just a matter of opinion or maybe I just got a bad batch. Either way, I would not repurchase this scent, but I would try a different scent that 719 Walnut Avenue has to offer, because I have faith that this candle company is a derivative of Bath & Body Works (they are too similar not to be, right?!). I have other scents yet to burn and review so my fingers are crossed that I have found the next best thing, and something to tithe me over from my overpriced Bath & Body Works 3 wick candle obsession!

Bath & Body Works: "Snowflakes & Spruce" Candle Review

This is a review of Bath & Body Works 14.5oz, 3-wick candle, "Snowflakes and Spruce." I purchased this candle from the Bath & Body Works 2015-'16 semi-annual sale. It is a winter time seasonal selection with glittering holographic packaging that is different from the typical label on BBW candles. I think the packaging is more clean and sophisticated with this look, even though I still love the playful and colorful labels they typically put out too! The solid wax is a medium green, and when it pools out it is a beautiful emerald green.

The Bath & Body Works scent description on this candle reads: “Kick off the holiday party season with an outdoorsy blend of inspired snow capped spruce, and sweetened boy a touch of creamy vanilla.”

Cold Sniff: On cold sniff you get the two scent notes equally: mostly spruce nicely rounded-out with a creamy vanilla. If you like pine scents but want something slightly out-of-the-box, this one is for you. I did not notice any other notes in this candle. Some pine smells are pine-sol ish, or very sharp and, for lack of a better word, urine-y.  This IS NOT! This is a sweet, creamy pine scent (if you can imagine such a thing).

Hot Throw: On hot throw, the candle smelled the same as on cold--no metamorphosis. It was a strong thrower, filling the whole 1st and 2nd floor of my split-level house and making it about halfway up the stairs. The scent throw was consistent throughout each burn, even until the end.

Wax Performance: wax performed great, no tunneling, sooting or wick issues.

Overall: I would recommend and repurchase this candle. I love nature scents and I love pine scents, but sometimes towards the end of the winter season--you just get sick of the typical pine, balsam, fir crap. This candle lends a creamy vanilla hand to a spruce and laces it with comfort, perfect for a snow day.

Yankee Candle: "Whiskers on Kittens" Candle Review

This is my review on Yankee Candle's "Whiskers on Kittens" 22 oz. jar candle... I got this candle as Christmas gift, and I just thought it was so fitting because I am just obsessed with cats! The label has this adorable fuzzy tabby cat on it, and it's wax is an amethyst color. This candle is part of Yankee Candle's "My Favorite Things" collection--as in the play/movie "The Sound of Music." So this candle is not only a great gift for the feline enthusiast, but also "The Sound of Music" enthusiasts AND just good ol' candle lovers. Way to go Yankee Candle, on capitalizing on 3 genres of folks!

The Yankee Candle scent description of "Whiskers on Kittens" reads:  A sweet scent with a gentle nuzzle of sandalwood and vanilla musk.

My take on the candle scent was on cold-sniff it was right up my alley. I love sandalwood, and sandalwood mixed with creamy and sweet vanilla--oh man! I was kinda hoping it would take on a literal play of the candle name and smell like cute, fluffy kitties--but alas, they opted for sandalwood and vanilla :-) On cold-sniff, it was a lighter scent so I assumed it wouldn't perform very well on hot throw...

...and I WAS RIGHT. I wasn't surprised either because Yankee Candle is 50/50 with their ability to fill up a room with scent. I had this candle burning at the entrance table of my split-level home and I didn't notice it throwing at all, in any aspect. I had to stand over the candle and waft it to my nose before I noticed the scent. I moved the candle to my kitchen a few days later and still the same result. I am disappointed, but not surprised. Since cold-sniff was lackluster--I had a feeling hot throw would be, as well. Overall, the wax burned cleanly and evenly, there was no sooting. I used an IllumaLid, which I do on all my Yankee Candles as it promotes a quick and even wax pool.

This candle was a 2015 pour, so still 'fresh' by all means. I would not repurchase this candle, but I do think it makes the cutest gift for the cat lover in anyone's life!
